Season One Preview: Training Grounds
Goal to be achieved: Cash-Out$1000 in 100 days
This is a very humble goal, very do-able. Given my low bankroll, this is still a significant amount to be gained. Here are the ground rules to be set for myself:
1) Play at least 4 SNGs a day- everyday for 100 days
Play at least 2 HeadsUp a day- everyday for 100 days
2) Playu the hotstreaks, avoid the coldstreaks
Try to keep playing when winning
If lose 2 SNGs in a row, take a break... at least one hour
If lose 4 SNGs in a row, stop SNG play for the day
If lose one Heads up, take a break... at least one hour
If lose two Heads up in a row, stop Headsup play for the day
3) Grind it out: since starting bankroll is only about $450, only play $10 SNGs and Headsup until BR is $700, only then can I move up to $20 SNGs and Headsup
4) Disciplined Cashout System:
-Cashout $50 for every $100 increase in BR
so if BR increase from 450 to 550, cash out 50
then from 500 to 600, cash out 50... BR will then be 550
-Ideally then, by the time I cash out $1000 my BR would have gone up to about $1450
-At the end of the 100 day period, make up for whatever shortage in total cashout from BR,
so if total cashout is $700 and BR is $1150, cash out $300 more from BR, leaving $850
5) Cash Games: I will only be allowed to play cash games after I cash out $500, and my BR is about $950
Why? Since myu BR is so low I will not be able to take the sings of Cash games. Even at the lowest staeks, $100 swings are common, and I cant afford to lose a fourth of my bankroll in one session.
Looking Aheads:
If I can average $40 dollars a day then in 100 days I would be able to make $2000 in 50 days and cash out $1000, meeting my goal. For a $20 daily average I can barely make it in 100 days, this is the minimum average I need if I want to meet my goal.
I am aiming to average about $30 a day, which is a reasonable goal... leaving me some slack should I fall short of this number.
Purpose:
Assuming I play 5 hours a day and average a profit of $30 a day, I would still be makign only $6 per hour... which is less then minimum wage
One can say that I am better off with a minimum wage job, and that playing poker is just a waste of time.
I would have to agree with this if I didnt have a special knowledge of my long term goals.
An 18 year old Bil Ivey's goal is to make $100,000 in 100 days, and hes close to accomplishign it. If I can just make $10,000 in 100 days I would already be really happy. The only way to get to that stage is to build my bankroll, and at the same time improve my game by grinding it out at a stake that gives me the lowest chance of going broke. If I have any edge at all in this game, in the long run, my efforts will be rewarded.
Think of it as practice, for any sport. In order to be a pro basketball player, one needs to run lines, do lay up drills, practice freethrows, and spend hours and hours in training...without seeing any immediate results... but its all worth it when they finally get the big pay-day.
That's what this is going to be for me... a training trial... I will call this 100 day period "Season One: Training Grounds"
Extra:
To make this more fun, and productive... I will also set the following goals for myself
10,000 Push-ups in 100 days.... average 100 per day
10,000 sit-ups in 100 days.... average 100 per day
1,000 pullups/chinups in 100 days... average 10 per day
This is good for the following purposes:
Gets me into better shape
Gives me something to do during tournaments... especially when all I get are rags
Makes me feel like I accomplished at least something on losing days... or should I lose all my money... at least I did some exercise.
Recap:
Here are my goals for the First Season, Starting on May 7
